Origin Stories: Plasticase / Nanuk

Plasticase (The makers of Nanuk Cases) started with a much smaller lineup back in 1984.  When they first started manufacturing cases, they were under the name of Resentel Ltd.  It wasn't until a few years later that they became Plasticase.

The 639 Designer Light Duty Case

Their initial focus was light duty cases - the first case being the 639 Attache Case which is still being sold today as part of their "Designer" series. The 639 was a consumer fashion/protection accessory and was a hit with students and young adults to carry a variety of everyday school and business items.  They saw the possibility of expanding the line to reach the business to business market and now have 20 models across the ClikCase, Designer and KitCase series of light duty cases.

While their light duty cases were successful, the technical packaging and case industry had an increased demand for cases with more protection and durability.  Plasticase seized the opportunity and developed a new and more rugged "NK-7" resin and line - NANUK.  Nanuk cases are rugged waterproof and dustproof protective cases that are rated for military, law enforcement and professional users alike.

Nanuk Cases

The NK-7 resin may be the 'bones' of the case, but Nanuk didn't stop the innovation there.  They have a unique and industry first patented PowerClaw latch that securely and confidently keeps their cases closed and your gear protected.  These are just some of the reasons these Designed and Made in Canada Nanuk Cases are distributed to over 50 countries worldwide!

Why the name Nanuk [NA·NOOK]?

The name was borrowed from the Inuit language and means "polar bear". It is the inspiration behinds Nanuk's brand - strength,  fearlessness and able to survive the harshest of conditions.  We also think it's very fitting for a Canadian company too!

With the exception of the Nanuk Nano Cases (they are water resistant and dustproof), the rest of their injection molded case features include*:

  • Waterproof (IPX7)
  • Dustproof (IP6X)
  • MIL-SPEC Certified
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • A Temperature Rage of -29C to +60C
  • Lightweight NK-7 Resin (But heavy on protection!)
  • Padlock Holes
  • Stackable
  • Molded-in Bezel System (Some other manufacturer have this as an add-on)
  • Soft Grip Handles
  • Integrated Lid Stay
  • Automatic Pressure Relief Valve
  • 100% Stainless Steel Hardware
  • PowerClaw Latching System

*Some features may vary/differ slightly between models due to size or configuration.

Several of their case models come in different colours and interior options such as:

  • Empty
  • With Foam (Cubed or layered depending on the model)
  • Padded Divider
  • Aluminum Panel (Sold separately)
  • Lexan Panel (Sold separately)
  • Nanuk designed and made inserts for drones, knives, firearms, cameras and more!

You can also pair many of their cases with a TSA "shanked" padlock and a shoulder strap for those that travel frequently.

If the above interior options don't provide you with the proper solution to protect your equipment, no sweat, Production Case can design and manufacture custom foam inserts made exactly for your equipment.  We use high quality closed cell polyethylene foam that is precisely CNC Routed for a secure fit.  We also offer crosslinked closed cell polyethylene foams too.
